Module 1: The course structure

Module 2: Infection prevention and control and the impact of infection

This module explores the different types of learning disabilities, their causes, impact and diagnosis. This innovative module provides an in-depth overview of infection control across healthcare and clinical settings. You’ll consider a range of infection control interventions and quality improvement tools, giving you the ability to explain the importance of control for staff and patient protection and the broader impacts on public health.  

Module 3: The different microorganisms

This module focuses on the different microorganisms that can cause infection. Participants will explore various organisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, and their unique characteristics. They will also understand how these microorganisms are transmitted and the risks associated with each type of infection. This module provides essential knowledge for understanding the spread of disease and developing effective prevention and control measures.

Module 4: How bacteria are transmitted

This module explains the ways bacteria can spread from one person to another. The module covers different modes of transmission, including direct contact, droplets, and airborne particles. It also highlights preventive measures to reduce the risk of transmissions, such as hand hygiene, proper use of personal protective equipment, and environmental cleaning.

Module 5: The Chain of Infection

This module explains the chain of infection and how it works in transmitting diseases. The module covers the different stages of the chain of infection, including the infectious agent, reservoir, portal of exit, mode of transmission, a portal of entry, and susceptible host. It also discusses how to break the chain of infection through various measures, such as hand hygiene, isolation, and vaccination. The module overviews the diseases resulting from conditions and the most at-risk individuals.

Module 6: The control and prevention of infection

This module will introduce you to the epidemiology of healthcare-associated infection and prevention strategies for different types of disease. 

Module 7: Cleaning & Decontamination

This module provides an in-depth understanding of the importance of cleaning and decontamination in preventing the spread of infection. The module covers various cleaning methods, including manual and automated processes, and choosing appropriate cleaning agents. It also discusses the proper disposal of waste and contaminated materials. It highlights the importance of following protocols and guidelines for effective cleaning and decontamination.

 

 

At the end of the course there is a multiple-choice exam. The required pass mark for all modules is 70%. It is essential to achieve the requried pass mark to issue a certificate.

Retake information :

You will be given 3 attempts at each module. If a module is failed on the third attempt,
it will become locked and you need to contact us for the module to be
unlocked again. You are only permitted up to 3 extra attempts per
course.

You can take the exam up to 3 times, and if not successful, should repay the course fee and start again.

After successful completion ofthe course the learner will achieve a Certification of Completion from Course Central and Achievement Certificate.
