The Mental Health Awareness course focuses on better understanding mental health and mental illness. It explains the difference between mental health and mental illness and provides information on the prevalence rates of mental illness. The course covers the symptoms of several common mental illnesses, including bipolar disorder, depression, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety, personality disorder, and self-harming. Practical advice is provided on how to work effectively with individuals affected by these conditions.

The course also provides techniques to assess one’s mental state regularly using tools like the mental health continuum. It explains what individuals can do to help themselves and others if they think there is a problem, including how to initiate conversations about mental health and where to go for additional support.

The HSE report that mental ill-health, specifically stress, depression, or anxiety, is responsible for over 50% of all working days lost and 51% of work-related ill health in 2019/20. Stress, depression, or anxiety account for 55% of all working days lost due to work-related ill health.

It also discusses common myths and stigmas surrounding mental health, the mental health continuum, factors that can contribute to poor mental health, and the responsibilities of the workplace in supporting mental health.

Module 2: Symptoms of Bi-Polar, depression, psychotic disorders and schizophrenia

This Module covers the symptoms of several common mental illnesses, including Bi-Polar disorder, depression, psychotic disorders, and schizophrenia. Participants will be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of these conditions, which will help them to identify when someone they know may need support or professional help.

Module 3: Symptoms of anxiety, personality disorder, self-harming

This module focuses on mental health conditions like anxiety, personality disorders, and self-harming. It covers the symptoms and signs of these conditions and guides supporting individuals struggling with them. You will better understand these conditions and be better equipped to assist those in need.
