Environmental Factors Amplifying Anxiety:

Several ecological factors increase anxiety levels among girls and women. Financial challenges and economic austerity experienced globally have added to the stress levels of adults. The uncertain economic climate affects job security, stability, and well-being, leading to heightened anxiety (Ruggeri et al., 2021). Additionally, the educational system places significant academic pressure on the younger generation, often leading to anxiety-related disorders (Pinto-Foltz et al., 2017).

The Impact of Social Media:

Social media has brought positive and negative consequences. While it connects people globally, it also contributes to the rise in anxiety levels. The constant exposure to carefully curated online images and the fear of missing out (FOMO) can lead to increased social comparison, self-doubt, and anxiety (Lup et al., 2020). A study conducted in the UK revealed a potential link between heavy social media usage and higher anxiety levels among young women (Royal Society for Public Health, 2017).

It is crucial to consider the context and social environment in which individuals live to address their anxiety effectively. By promoting evidence-based therapies, we can encourage those needing professional help and access the tools required to improve their mental well-being.
